Enter a New Dimension is a ceramics workshop that caters to professional illustrators who want to
go beyond the limit of the page and explore a new dimension!
What: The idea of the project was born out of a collaboration between Odeon Studio and the
Accademia Drosselmeier, School for Booksellers and Centre for the Study of Children’s Literature,[www.accademiadrosselmeier.com] which – thanks to a twenty-year cooperation with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair – is a privileged observatory of international illustration. Research in this field has shown how today drawing and illustration frequently migrate from one support to another experimenting with different languages. Many famous artists have approached the art of ceramics; why should not illustrators do the same?
Over time the initial idea has developed into a well-defined project, which puts together two
different forms of artistic expression: illustration and ceramics, the two souls of Odeon Studio.
Workshop: A week of hands-on experimentation to experience the traditional process of modelling
and sculpting with water-based clay, in order to add extra shape and volume to drawing, an
otherwise two-dimensional form of visual expression.
The workshop days will be very intense and each project will be followed with care by the tutor:
from the study of the shapes to the sketch on paper, up to the search for new palettes and glazing,
and finally to the firing of the artefacts. Each of the participants will be given the time necessary to
develop their idea, having the opportunity to interact with the tutor and the group.
Where: Odeon Studio is based in Grosseto, in the Tuscan Maremma, is a creative workspace that
houses a permanent ceramic workshop and a rich international collection of illustrated and picture
books. The Studio is equipped with all the necessary sculpting and modelling tools and a wide array
of materials: clays of different colours with specific characteristics and grain size, glazes, crystalline
glazes, metal oxides, underglaze pencils and chalks, and many other materials which will make the
exploration of clay a fulfilling art experience.
When: The workshop will start Monday, June 2nd at 2 pm with the course presentation and an
introduction to the different materials, glazes, and mineral oxides available to the participants.
The workshop will end Sunday, June 8 th at 16 pm with the distribution of the glazed artworks
to the participants.

A visit to the Tarot Garden, the vast sculpture park representing the 22 major arcana of the
divinatory tarot created by the artist Niki de Saint Phalle, is part of the workshop experience.
Where to stay: For participants who need accommodation, we highly recommend B& WarmUp, a
welcoming and bright guest house located in a green area of the town, within 250 Mt of the historic
centre and twenty minutes walk from Odeon Studio. Both single and double bedrooms have a
private bathroom and balcony, and are fitted with air conditioning. Guests at the accommodation
can enjoy a delicious continental breakfast.
Special room rates have been agreed upon for the participants to the workshop.

Fee: The application fee includes all materials required, firing of the artwork, visit to the Tarot
Garden, and two dinners on a wonderful terrace in a nearby medieval village.

desiderino varcare il limite della pagina per avventurarsi in una nuova dimensione!
Cosa: l’idea nasce in collaborazione con l’Accademia Drosselmeier, Scuola per librai e centro di
studio di letteratura per l’infanzia [https://www.accademiadrosselmeier.com/] che da 20 anni è un osservatorio privilegiato dell’illustrazione internazionale, anche grazie alla stretta collaborazione con la Bologna Children’s Book Fair. Proprio dalla ricerca in questo ambito è apparso evidente come oggi il disegno e l’illustrazione migrino da un supporto all’altro, sperimentando linguaggi diversi tra loro. Tanti e celebri gli artisti che si sono accostati all’arte della ceramica, perché no gli illustratori?
Nel tempo, quindi, questa idea ha preso forma fino a diventare un progetto articolato che vede
insieme due forme di espressione: l’illustrazione e la ceramica, le due anime di Odeon studio.
Workshop: una settimana di laboratorio e sperimentazione con l’argilla per apprendere le tecniche
tradizionali e le varie fasi della lavorazione della ceramica, per dare materia e volume al disegno.
Le giornate di workshop saranno molto intense e ogni progetto sarà seguito con cura: dallo studio
delle forme, al bozzetto su carta, fino alla ricerca di nuove palette e alla smaltatura e infine alla
cottura dei manufatti. Ognuno dei partecipanti avrà modo di confrontarsi con la docente e il gruppo
avendo il tempo necessario per sviluppare la propria idea.
Dove: Odeon studio si trova a Grosseto, nella Maremma toscana, ed è uno spazio creativo che
accoglie un laboratorio permanente di ceramica e una ricca collezione internazionale di albi
illustrati. All’interno dello studio sono presenti i macchinari necessari per la lavorazione dell’argilla, terre di vari colori, caratteristiche e granulosità, insieme a un numero infinito di smalti, ossidi e
cristalline, matite ceramiche, gessetti ceramici e molti altri materiali che renderanno l’esplorazione
del supporto un’esperienza molto appagante.
Quando: il workshop inizierà il 2 giugno alle 14 con la presentazione del corso e dei differenti
strumenti e materiali a disposizione dei partecipanti e terminerà l’8 giugno alle 16 con la
consegna dei manufatti.
Le lezioni giornaliere seguiranno i seguenti orari: dalle 9 alle 13 e dalle 14.30 alle 18.00
Come parte del workshop è prevista una visita al Giardino dei Tarocchi, il grande parco di sculture
ispirate ai ventidue arcani maggiori dei tarocchi, opera dell’artista Niki de Saint Phalle.
Pernottamento: Ai partecipanti che necessitano di una sistemazione raccomandiamo il B&B
WarmUp, una residenza accogliente e luminosa a 250 mt dal centro storico e 20 minuti a piedi da
Odeon studio. La struttura ha a disposizione camere doppie e singole dotate di bagno privato e
balcone con affaccio sul verde e offre deliziose colazioni. Tutte le stanze sono dotate di aria
condizionata.
